CN WEATHER ADVISORY
• Weather conditions that affected Western Canada and Northern Ontario over the past week eased on Friday and Saturday.
• The train length restrictions that were imposed as a response to extreme cold weather have now been lifted throughout the formerly affected corridors:
1. Toronto to Winnipeg via Thunder Bay/Atikokan, ON
2. Winnipeg to Superior, WI
3. Winnipeg to Edmonton, AB
4. Jasper, AB, to Prince George, BC and Prince Rupert, BC
• CN redeployed motive power in response to the adverse conditions; as a result, congestion and traffic backlogs were kept to a minimum at major terminals and yards. Traffic is fluid, and is currently circulating unimpeded.
• While overall traffic patterns are approaching seasonal norms, we expect full recovery early next week. Some customer shipments will continue to experience delays during the return to normal winter operations.
Extreme cold has an adverse effect on train braking systems, and CN trains may run at reduced lengths in order to maintain brake line pressure and ensure safe operation. Please be assured that we are taking every possible measure to maintain network fluidity and safety.
We will post further information on this web page as it becomes available.
Please do not hesitate to contact your Customer Support Representative or to use your regular channels to obtain more detailed information on specific shipments. |
Jan 19, 2012:
Severe winter weather warnings and restrictions across Western Canada could result in length restriction for the trains.
Lift plans are made accordingly to local weather temperatures at the time a train is in position to make a lift.
Much of the traffic will be moved in smaller segments depending on weather.
