Marine Atlantic advises customers that due to adverse weather in the Cabot Strait the following changes have been made to our schedule:

    • Port aux Basques to North Sydney Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at 1145 is now scheduled to depart Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at 2345.
    • North Sydney to Port aux Basques Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at 1230 is now scheduled to depart Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at 2345.
    •   Due to impending weather conditions in the Cabot Strait, we anticipate a potential impact to the following departures:

Moncton New Brunswick and Surrounding Area – January 26, 2017

Thursday, January 26, 2017, 7:25 AM – A powerful low-pressure system passing through Atlantic Canada Wednesday left an icy trail in its wake, causing near-record power outages affecting more than 100,000 people

New Brunswick has experienced the most outages. As of 8 a.m. Thursday, around 85,000 customers were still without power, and some outages may last for days.

SNOW SQUALL WATCH BARRIE -MIDLAND-COLLINGWOOD AREAS 1-26-27

  • Snow Squall Watch Barrie-Midland-Orillia-Collingwood areas
  • Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow, and snow will quickly accumulate. Conditions are expected to become favourable for the development of snow squalls beginning late this evening. Local snowfall amounts of 15 cm in 12 hours will be possible under the most intense snow squalls. The potential for snow squalls will continue into the weekend. Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

    • North Sydney to Port aux Basques Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2345 is now scheduled to depart Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1145 weather permitting. Due to adverse weather conditions in the Cabot Strait the departures Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1145 hours may be delayed. The vessel will load as per our regular schedule and will depart when weather permits

Freezing rain warning posted for New Brunswick – 1-25-16

Freezing Rain Warning

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Freezing rain and ice pellets will continue to change over to rain over central Brunswick today but will persist across the north until later this afternoon or early evening. Rain at times heavy will persist over southern New Brunswick this morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages have occurred, a large part of the city is without power.

Freezing Rain/Snowfall Warning Montreal Area January 24, 2017

The Montreal area will be experiencing  2 to 4 millimetres of freezing precipitation this morning.

In addition this  afternoon they are expecting snowfall, with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm.
