WEATHER ALERT FOR NEW BRUNSWICK – April 4, 2018

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A prolonged period of freezing rain is expected later today and tonight.

A low pressure system currently east of the Great Lakes will intensify as it tracks across New Brunswick tonight. Snow will change to or become mixed with freezing rain and ice pellets this afternoon and into the evening. A period of freezing rain lasting 3 to 6 hours is expected over these regions.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Currently HWY 20 is closed do to the poor conditions.

There is also snowfall, with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm expected.

Significant snowfall expected over northern New Brunswick today and tonight.

A low pressure system currently east of the Great Lakes will intensify as it tracks across New Brunswick tonight. Snow is expected to change over to ice pellets and freezing rain this afternoon then back to snow or flurries tonight. Precipitation is expected to end overnight tonight.

Total snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 centimetres are expected with this storm. Please note that Highway 20 North West of Moncton is closed down because of weather issues.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
