Weather Advisory: Winter Storm - Western Newfoundland - January 12, 2026

Dear Valued Client,

A significant winter storm continues to impact western Newfoundland, including Bay St. George to Corner Brook and the Great Northern Peninsula.

Weather Details:

Total Snowfall: 20–40 cm, with higher amounts possible over higher terrain

Maximum Wind Gusts (Today): East to northeast 80–100 km/h, reaching up to 120 km/h in exposed areas and along the Straits

Maximum Wind Gusts (Tonight): North to northwest 90–120 km/h

Duration: Continuing until early Tuesday morning

Conditions:
The combination of snow and strong winds is expected to produce blizzard-like conditions and poor visibility throughout the affected regions.
In the Bay St. George and Corner Brook areas, snow may briefly mix with or change to ice pellets or freezing rain this morning before blizzard conditions develop later tonight as temperatures drop.

Localized wind and snow enhancement may occur in the areas surrounding Cape St. George, Port au Port Bay, the outer Bay of Islands, Trout River Bay, Bonne Bay, Western Brook Pond, St. Paul’s Bay, Parson’s Pond River, and St. John Bay.

Travel Advisory:
Travel will likely be challenging due to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
We encourage customers to plan ahead and check for service updates as conditions evolve.
